SP11 Questionnaire

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?

I like to knit with natural fibers and cotton. My favorite is alpaca. I also like using Tofutsies and Colinette Jitterbug for the colors. I'd prefer nothing acrylic unless it is yarn store quality.. I recently gave Goodwill an entire trash bag full of acrylic yarns I had bought from Hobby Lobby etc. while I was learning that I lost the desire to work with.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?

I have a needle bag that my mom made for me, and a plastic pencil box for DPNs. I also have a kind of small binder to use for holding exchangeable needles (for circulars).

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?

I've been knitting for about three years now. I would consider myself to be between intermediate and advanced.. there are some techniques that I haven't tried yet but just haven't had the chance.

5. What's your favorite scent?

I like food and fruit scents (my favorite is orange) as well as lavender and japanese cherry blossom.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?

I have a bad sweet tooth. I love chocolate, although that might not mail well, as it's in the nineties and above here for at least another month. I love sour gummy and fruity candies as well.

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?

I do spin a little on a drop spindle. I am still learning. I've recently started trying to crochet too. I like to make beaded jewelry and cook.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)

My favorite band is Muse. Others that I've been listening to lately have been Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Spoon, Flyleaf, and Interpol. My car can only play audio cds (~12 tracks - not mp3 format) but my computer can play mp3s and I have an mp3 player I hook up to the car.

9. What's your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can't stand?

I like bright colors - blues, pinks, greens, purple. Red is probably at the bottom of the list, and black and silver.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?

Well I don't have a family of my own. I live alone with a dog and two cats. I have an older sister who lives in Austin.

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?

I wear scarves and mitten-gloves (the kind with the flap) a lot, and hats a few times a year when it's that cold. No ponchos and no full out mittens.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?

I love knitting socks and mitten-gloves and small things like that to keep my attention. I've made a couple sweaters but haven't liked them enough for them to be any use, so I'm scared to start another one. I am also usually on a small budget because of college and can't afford the 20 skeins of yarn to make the sweater I might not wear.

13. What are you knitting right now?

Right now I am making a slouchy hat worn by Rose Tyler in the new Doctor Who, and I have pending socks as well (Jaywalker and Pomatomus and Baudelaire.. someday I will actually finish a pair).

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?

I like to receive handmade stuff if it was made with me in mind.

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?

My favorite needles are my 10.5 bamboo straights. I work with all kinds though, usually aluminum because they're cheapest and easy to find.

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?

Yes I own both.

17. How old is your oldest UFO?

I know I have an unfinished sweater from 2 years ago.. I think that's it.

18. What is your favorite holiday?

I like Christmas because I get to see my family, I am on vacation from school, my mom cooks Thanksgiving dinner all over again, and of course I get awesome presents.

19. Is there anything that you collect?

I have a lot of cat trinkets and DVDs.

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?

I looked for the summer 2007 interweave knits at my local bookstore and couldn't find it. I want to make the motorcycle chica gloves found in that issue. I don't have any subscriptions. I bought a couple issues of Knit1 before, because there were a few cute patterns in a sea of ugly ones.

21. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn?

I want to try entrelac and I haven't done a toe-up sock yet but will soon.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?

Yep! I love knitting socks. I'm too lazy right now to measure my foot. :p

23. When is your birthday?

February 20th.
